Clayton's Story

My staying healthy journey began back in 2008/2009ish. I went from an active 250# in high school (2002) to a staggering 425 couch monster at the end of 2009.I was sick all the time. I was admitted to hospital off and on for weeks at a time. I was missing work, missing family functions and missing out on life.My doctor told me that I would die soon if I didn't get it together. So I took that threat quite seriously. I knew I was broken physically, but now, I was spiritually broken as well.So the day after my doctor told me this life changing news, I went to the gym, got on the scales and nearly had a mental breakdown when the trainer said "wow, ummm, ahhhh"... I said "what?" She said "425". Then the room went awkwardly quite for a long time. She said "ummmm, I don't know if you can do it at this weight". Meaning, I don't know if you will ever lose all this weight. So, I remained broken but motivated to prove to the trainer and everyone else that I'd not only lose the weight, but I'd keep it off. Thus began a 7 day a week sometimes twice a day routine at the gym. Sweat, tears, despair, followed by a shrinking waistline, sweat and smiles. This lasted for almost a year. And then one day I thought, "I wonder what I weigh?" So after much thought, fear and looking at the scale across the room, I got on. I nearly died, I went from 425 to 320. I was down 105# in a year! To date I'm almost down a total of 200#.I eventually quit the generic gym and started training at CrossFit Saint John. CrossFit is know as the sprit if fitness. I excelled at this. Then back in 2012 on a dare I did a triathlon. I was hooked! So now I'm training for a 1/2 ironman this summer and a full ironman next. I've done 4 half marathons and 6 triathlons. It takes time, patience, sleep, healthy eating and support to loose weight, but believe me when I say that it can be done!"Clayton passed away at the age of 29. He left behind Melissa (wife) and 2 year old daughter Ellie.AMRAP 20 min14 Burpees2 Deadlifts 400/255#4 Box Jumps 30/24"The scaled # will be 200/155. 200# represents the weight he's lost.We will have a donation bin at the gym this morning.
