GoRuck Recap

Reminder - Prep Course starts tomorrow night! Still a couple spots left.EMOM for 10 min3 Sumo Deadlifts @ 65%3 BurpeesNFT100 Weighted Flutterkicks (4 count) @ 45#75 Kickouts*break up any wayThere we are - standing in the middle of the Boston Public Gardens - waiting for the Cadre to arrive and give our group the details for the night. We are a group of 12 individuals from all walks of life, each carrying a 35-45 pound pack. Our Cadre for the event is Cleve (he refused to explain where the name came from). He asked for two volunteers to be team leaders. Myself and a vet name Jason put our hands up and led the group through the first half of the event. We were shown a map and told to reach our first 2 mile destination in 30 minutes. We hit a few road blocks, but we made it to a park. Our "warm-up" was a demonized version of the Deck of Death. At the end of 63 minutes, we had completed 792 reps (and a couple sprints). All with our rucks on (just a reminder - they were about 40# each and could never touch the ground). But, we didn't complete it in the 50 minute time cap, so we would face a penalty of doing it all again - 12 hours later. After a brief "swim" in the Harbour, we were on our way to the next "event".Cadre Cleve brought some empty sandbags. When we came across a construction site, we were instructed to fill the bags. We had two 60# bags, one 80# and one 120# sucker. We were told that these sandbags would bring our team closer together. And they DID!After another ruck, we played a few "games" on the side of a highway. Hot potato with two 60# sandbags (losers had to do twenty 8-count body builders). And Beep Beep, I'm a Jeep, Clank Clank, I'm a Tank. Let's just say duck walking with weight burns A LOT. And again, more body builders for the losers. We came across a playground that had a beam that was 8.5 feet off the ground. Our mission was to get our entire team over it, with ONLY 2 people touching the beam during the mission. We were successful in the mission, but not for the time cap. Our penalty was one hundred 8-count body builders. After a couple hours of rucking, Cleve found a pile of trees He found a suitable one for us to carry for miles and miles. It weighed approximately 350#. This is in addition to the rucks, flag, 25# team weight, sandbags and water we were already carrying. I was too tall to carry the log, so John and Itraded that 120# mother of a sandbag for most of the trip. Joanna also had a few turns under that massive load.As dawn was breaking on the horizon, we knew our night was soon to be done. But we also knew there was a lot ahead of us. We stopped for a team picture, brought the log a little further, and ditched it.We rucked through the city, passing old houses, morning runners and Fenway park, with our final destination on the top of our minds. Before we reached the park, we stopped in a side street and Cleve had everyone talk about what the American flag meant to them. Joanna and I were exempt from this activity, but we couldn't restrain ourselves. We were proud to be a part of this event and felt a great sense of pride. With only one city block to go, the Cadre said two of our teammates stepped on landmines. We had to carry them the rest of the way.We reached the park. Finally. Eleven hours of rucking and events was over. Oh. Wait. Remember when we didn't finish the Deck of Death under the cap? Yeah, now we had to do it again. BUT, we bargained with the Cadre. Instead of doing the Deck again, we had to go in the duck pond (which makes Centennial pond look like drinking water). In perfect sync, we had to do 30 fully submerged pushups. This made Cleve happy. They call it the GoRuck Tough. Not the GoRuck Easy. Not the GoRuck Pretty Hard. It was TOUGH. We earned this badges. You can't buy them, you have to earn them.Joanna asked on the way home if I'd do it again. Once the blisters heal and the pain in my body subsides, I'm sure it will be a "Hell Yeah".We are Class 2046. Hoorah!
